We're getting old, and sometimes we go to shows by ourselves.
Well, I love the album, but they definitely bring it live. The guitar freakouts are best experienced that way, and Meg Baird's vocals are spot on. Go see 'em.

Heron Oblivion were fantastic last night. (And yes, I went by myself.) That is all.

What are you reading at the moment?
Bob Mehr's new biography of the Replacements, "Trouble Boys", which I plowed through in a couple days. Much like the band's music, it is alternately hilarious, heartbreaking, and infuriating. I am clearly the smack dab in the t…

Pretty slow year so far for me, but I am very much digging Heron Oblivion's self-titled album. 60's psyche rock with pretty female vocals over some well-fuzzed and wah-ed guitars. Kinda reminds me of Opal. Excellent. Also enjoying Aziz…

New Tortoise has its moments, including a lovely vocal(!) number featuring Georgia Hubley, but is overall a bit meh. Maybe I need to give it more time.

Hey, the Giuliana was a solid rec! Been enjoying it this week, thanks! Good to hear! Speaking of jazz, it turns out that I had vastly underrated Mike Reed's "A New Kind of Dance" album (with his People Places and Things band) fr…

Well, the other two jazz releases on my list are Daniele Cavallanti and Roots Magic, so you might want to check those out as well. They're both on Spotify.

I played "Keep Your Flashlight On" on my radio show tonight. Meaning upwards of 5 or maybe even as many as 6 people may have heard it. Maybe. You're welcome.

I agree with Nick that this was, overall, a good-not-great year (maybe even less than good) but I still found plenty to listen to. I'll probably have a list of 20 or so (many I've already posted here) by the end of the year. I think tha…

Hey, this new Zomes album is really good. It's Asa Osborne, who used to play guitar in Lungfish, although there is no guitar here. Just droney keyboards, minimal percussion and very cool vocals by one Hanna Olivegren. I like this one a lot. …

I'm 44 and I go to the vast majority of shows by myself, and that's been the case for years (because I'm a loser without friends, I guess?) I don't really mind it except the waiting-between-bands part. That can be excruciating…
